Nomo – Ghost Rock
Ghost Rock is the album that brought my library’s “uses the cellphone-by-a-speaker noise” count to two. It’s a glitchy electronics-infused “post-afrobeat dance explosion” (their own words), that sometimes sounds like Animal Collective getting its collective ass kicked by a marauding brass ensemble, in Kenya. On the “dance explosion” front, it’s at least inspiring enough to make me annoy my coworkers by bopping my head just at the corner of their peripheral vision. I’ll report back on the true rump-shake quotient after seeing them live on Aug. 5th.
